Watch Charging Dock: Process_
Using as few components as possible, I wanted the dock to allow the charging cable to be stored and unwound as necessary. These constraints heavily influenced the overall size and behaviour of the dock.
Whilst there were several obvious ways to wind the cable, each required the overall diameter of the dock to increase to an unacceptable size. Through the use of neodymium magnets and martensitic (magnetic) stainless steel (416) I was able to resolve the winding and size issues and introduce a more intuitive and satisfying means of joining the two components of the dock together.
